The Realm of Balanthe | Downloadable Map

In this week's tutorial, Ryan of the Red Quills shows us the step-by-step process by which he draws a map - and in doing, creates a world. From the pens that he uses to the composition of a good map, he takes us through how to make our maps better for considering the bigger picture. He also adds in some culture building and a timeline on the map!

The map that he draws is an original land called Balanthe: its theme is balance. Between the ice to the north and the fire to the south, it sits in a mild area surrounded by the elements.

He also shows us the concepts of magic that he creates for the world: the nine major runes, all based on elements except for their chief, the King Rune. These are located on the points of the compass rose, and have towers - or Tors - dedicated to them on the map.

For those who wish to use Balanthe for their own campaigns, please feel free. For those who just admire a good map, download it through the link below, and comment what you like most!

As always, thank you for patronising your friendly cartographers, the Red Quills.
